I was running around on a busy Dallas street. I was scared, cold, hungry and pregnant. I wasn't sure how I ended up on the streets, but a nice lady who was driving by saw me and picked me up. She gave me a bath, fixed my hair which was a mess and told me she wanted to keep me but she had too many pets already. She struggled with the decision but ended up calling DAS to come and get me.
I am not sure how long I was at DAS but I was very close to having my puppies. Lucky for me Metroplex Mutts came to my rescue. I had my puppies shortly after being rescued and that is when I met my foster mom Joanna. I could tell my luck was beginning to change. It takes a very special person to take care of a mommy and pups and my foster mom knew exactly what to do to keep us healthy and happy. My puppies started to grow up and I had recovered from my lady surgery and it was time for us to find our forever homes.
I went to a Metroplex Mutts event one night. The theme was Mardi Gras, and I was asked to be in the parade. I had my own float, felt like a princess and I knew exactly how to get the crowd's attention. It was in that crowd that I caught my future mom's eye. We met...I wasn't sure what to make of her but she seemed to really be into me... She told me later that it was love at first sight.
The lady from the party adopted me. It was very hard leaving my foster mom, I loved her very much and I know now how difficult it must've been to let go of my pups and I. She is such a wonderful and selfless person, I know she needed to do this in order to give another family like us a chance.
A few months later I went for my first haircut. The groomer recognized me immediately. As it turns out, my groomer was the lady who rescued me from the street on that cold November day. We were very happy to see each other and we now see each other every few months. It's a small world isn't it?
I have also seen my foster mom since I got adopted. It's always good to see her and I will forever be thankful for the love and care she gave us.
This holiday season, I just wanted to thank everyone who works and volunteers for Metroplex Mutts. If it wasn't for you who knows what would've happened my family. I want to thank Trish and Joanna in particular for being so good to me and for making sure my mom and I were a good match for each other so we could be together forever. I also want to thank everyone who donates their time and money to Metroplex Mutts. Without your time and donations they would not be able to do all the wonderful things they have done and continue to do for doggies that are down on their luck like I was. You all have given me and many others a second chance at life and happiness.
Finally, I want to thank everyone at Metroplex Mutts on behalf of my mom. She adores me and can't imagine her life without me.
From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you for all that you do each and every day to help doggies in need of a second chance.
Happy Holidays!
Love,
Sophie

Happy Holidays from Lexi "Mumbles" and family

I'm Lexi, formerly Mumbles, and I was adopted Aug. 2010 at about 8 months old. His shy, unsure face grabbed my heart. I have adored Papillons since I was a child and my need to reintroduce one to my household was becoming overwhelming. I wanted to give this little guy some love and security. Tricia facilitated that for me. We met and were introduced. i saw first hand how shy he was around human beings. Too late though, I was in love. Within a few days everything was settled, and I brought him home and intoduced him to our two other rescue dogs, jake and Sophie. Everyone said hello nicely, sniffing and wagging and sniffing some more. Then they pretty much ignored each other. Tucker then turned promptly marked just about everything in my den! He had arrived. It will be a slow process in helping him adjust to life with humans who are interested in doing more than tossing him some kibble and an occassional bitch in
heat. He is fearful of our attention and cowers when we offer to stroke his back or massage his shoulders. He is starting towarm up to us and has begun the bonding stage with me. He will now sit close and allow me to give him a massage. I can tell when Tucker is really relaxed, his tongue barely pokes out the front of his tiny mouth. He definitely has Papillon intelligence. He's informed me when his food was not prepared correctly and he's informed me when he wanted to go outside and fertilize the grass. Good Boy! I adore him so much already that it's embarrassing. Thank you, Metroplex Mutts, and Tricia.
File #0 Tucker on the bed.png exceeds the maximum file size. She did wonderful from the moment we met her Foster Dad on Friday and picked her up. She was doing so well that we went to PetSmart and got her new harness, leash, tag and toys. She was very timid of the people and especially the automatic doors when we entered but it didn't take her long to come out from behind mom's legs and enjoy the shopping; she's a true girl at heart! : ) By the time we left she had found her confidence. She took right to her new home, I truly believe she knows she is in her forever home and is completely comfortable. Bailey has gotten along well with all the animals, the duck and the cat being her favorite, if she can ever figure out what they are. : ) She had her first swimming lesson on Saturday. She wasn't too sure of it but she didn't mind mom holding her like a baby. Her big sis led the way and showed her how. She is a natural. She also took right to playing fetch. Unfortunately
for mom, I spoiled her with every time we went to potty we played; now it's a requirement. haha. She enjoys being at my feet when I work. She is a momma's girl, which is everything I hoped for. She is fabulous with the kids and really enjoys being around her family, furry family included. She shares very well, which we didn't expect from her or our pug (who has never shared until now). She also enjoys her bed and had no issues at all with being crated at night or when we leave. I think her "big" sister leading the way helps. The only "issue" we see is that she scratches at the door to come in once she's done going potty. We would rather her not do that and instead we will be purchasing a bell for her to learn to use. Not a biggie at all.
I don't think we could have prayed for a better outcome. Bailey is such a wonderful blessing to our family. Thank you so much for holding out for the right parents! Attached are a few photos of her first weekend. : ) She has truly settled in and called us home.
Kaitlyn Raine Miller
Mommy of Bailey Gray Miller

Skittles

Skittles joined our family in July, 2011 and is such a fun, happy little puppy! We have never had an easier time welcoming a new member to our family and we are all so happy to have Skittles! He loves all of the toys and balls in the house and can't get enough play time with Star - our Australian Shepherd! Between the kids, dogs and big back yard, Skittles is one tired boy by the end of the day. He has decided to share a bed at night with our two year old daughter - who couldn't be happier about that! They sleep the night away together and wake up ready for another day of playing! Our son has taken on the task of teaching Skittles how to play fetch and has begun training him on how to sit and stay - as long as there is a toy involved - Skittles happily goes along! Thank you so much for helping us adopt Skittles! He has made a wonderful addition to our family.
The Bryants

Molly

Hi! I'm Molly. I was adopted in March by a family with a big yard and a pool! I don't really like swimming in the pool, though, but I like to lay beside it. My big brother is Sweeney. He's a labradoodle. I guess I'm his little pesky sister, but he loves me! My human sister lets me sleep in her room with her at night time. I like that! I also like the couch for my naps. I have lots of toys and I play really well with them and don't mess with the stuff I'm not supposed to! I'm a pretty good girl and I love my forever home!

Chloe

I just wanted to give you an update on Chloe (Polly). ÊShe is doing great here and I think she likes it quite well. ÊShe sleeps with my oldest daughter every night under her covers. ÊShe is the sweetest dog, and she is so gentle with the kids. ÊShe gets lots of exercise and has made friends with our Bichon, Sophie. ÊThey are best pals, and most afternoons you can find them napping on the chaise lounge in the living room. ÊChloe was a butterball when she came to live with us but she has trimmed down to a healthier weight. ÊI just wanted to let you know how she was doing. ÊWe sure love our Chloe. Ê
Thanks,
Cara

His favorite part of the day is an early morning walk. She shows us every day what a great decision it was to adopt her and it's hard to believe she's only been with us for few months. She is such a sweet, good girl!
She likes being in the backyard where she can roll in the grass and keep a close eye on the comings and goings of the neighborhood squirrel population. I think she still has hope that she'll get one someday! Maddie still loves her tennis ball and seems to prefer softer/plushy toys, so her most recent and now favorite acquisition is a fuzzy lamb with a squeaker in it. She's generous though and it's always her first choice when offering a toy to us for playtime.
We try to take her with us as often as we can on errands in the neighborhood and anywhere else we go that's dog-friendly. She is so well behaved and good with other dogs, new people and new situations. A total charmer. :)
Hope all is well and that many more dogs are finding great new homes.

Cadi

Cadi

Just wanted you to know that ÒCadiÓ is terrific! We adopted him at the end of February, so he has been with us about four months now & he is fitting in wonderfully! At first he was obsessed with wanting to chase our cat, which had us a bit worried, but now that he is getting used to her & realizing that she is part of the family - QUEEN of the family, actually - he resists the urge...for the most part! I don't think he had ever seen a cat before, so it was a bit of an adjustment for all of us. We are glad we stuck with him, though, because he is so much fun! His favorite pastime is playing fetch. I think he would literally play until he fell over dead if we would let him! We also discovered the he loves water. When he drinks, he puts his paws in the bowl!. Then he sloshes it out & lays right in the mess! Luckily, he only does this when he's outside. He has better manners indoors! And he is such a love bug. Getting neck & butt rubs are his
favorite thing! Overall, we really love him & we are so glad we brought him into our home. Thank you!
Wendi
P.S. Here are some pictures of Porter (& our other dog, Tucker).
Note from Metroplex Mutts. It took our Hooch a year to find his forever home. He was adopted by a great family in May and lost his home due to divorce. Then he was in a foster to adopt home and a family member turned out to be allergic to him. The third time is the charm! They have successfully weaned him off of pheoabarbitol for seizures he had in he past and he has not had a single seizure.

Latte

I just wanted to let you know about Latte. We absolutely love her and she has been a great addition to our family. We can't imagine our home without her. She loves being outside to play but is mainly a house dog. Every night she is either playing with her toys with one of us or sitting lovingly beside us. Thank you so much for the opportunity to have her in our family!
Kristin
(Note: Latte was one of the dogs in a seizure of 56 dogs)

Lance's Pool

Update on Lance: Day 2 we realized he's into water. We were strolling around the pool deck and he's of course making fast friends with EVERYONE (and I mean everyone - people stop on their jogs to pet him and say how beautiful he is, everything. It's incredible). Talking with these people about him and he's off the leash sniffing around... I look back and he's high-stepping his way through the shallow wading pool! Of course he didn't want to get out, so I roll up my pants and go in after him... while I'm getting a towel and those people are keeping an eye on him, I come back out and he's back in the water, laying down and putting his head under water, flipping it up and having a grand old time. I have no idea if the building cares, but I don't, so every so often I'll still let him get in there:)
Day 3 we went for a walk and took him out with us to dinner - he wanted everyone to pay attention to him of course, but he was happily sitting and laying down for the most part, being a very good boy.Ê
All in all things are great. He seems to have a definite affection for small dogs, whenever he has a chance to sniff around one he gets very excited, and so do they.
Pictures in the pool to come!

Tillie

(Photo did not appear in first post)
What a wonderful addition Tillie is to our home. He's fitting into our family just wonderfully. He's had his last set of shots and is as fit as a fiddle. He loves going for walks and is doing very well on the leash and harness. HeÕs learning to walk with a loose leash.Ê HeÕs starting to figure out that if he stands by the backdoor, weÕll let him out to go to the bathroom, so thatÕs getting better.Ê He likes his crate and goes in there on his own when heÕs tired.Ê ÊHe loves tearing around the back yard and playing in water puddles.Ê He enjoys getting a bath so we usually bathe him at least once a week, occasionally more if heÕs gotten really muddy or rolled on something too smelly !
Charlie is enrolled in puppy training classes once a week and is probably the smartest dog there! Our youngest son has taken on the role of lead trainer for the family and teaches us how to do the training with Charlie so we are consistent when we ask him to do something.
I just wanted you to know that he's thriving and we are thrilled to have him. He's a real gem and we couldn't have asked for a better family pet.
God bless you and your work.

KAYLEE'S FIRST VACATION

Kaylee, formerly Erin, is such fun to have around. We actually were there to look at three other dogs but while waiting for them to arrive, my daughter helped get the cages for the other dogs set up and held Ryder. She proceeded to fall in love with him, even though we were not looking for a male or a puppy or a dog that would get very big. A few other people were actually in line before us to possibly receive Ryder but due to their generosity and fate, Ryder became ours two days later.
We wanted another dog because our daughter's best friend of 7 years had been put to sleep last year. Our other dog also missed having a playmate. It took our dog a week or so to get used to Ryder and all his energy (he kind of tricked us at the petshop and was very quiet and snuggly). But he did wonderfully with his crate training and our daughter did all the hard work of taking him out even in the cold winter weather.
He is doing just great as part of our family now and the two dogs wrestle and play all the time. He and our daughter were inseperable but he is now entering teenage years and getting more independent. Ryder thankfully doesn't seem like he is going to be very big and we still don't know for sure what kind of breed he is mixed with.
We are thankful for all the hard work his foster mother did to keep him healthy and start him off right in his training.
Thank you Metroplex Mutts!

Bubbles and Bennet Update

Hello Everyone - Bubbles and Bennet here! We found our forever home and even acquired a brother and sister named Teddy and Tallulah. It has been a week now and we are getting adjusted to our new surroundings and our brother and sister are getting used to having us around.
We have a big backyard littered with toys to play in. It is like a treasure hunt with bones and stuffed animals for us to drag around the yard. Our mom does not let us stay out there by ourselves for too long as Bubbles likes to dig in the newly planted pots. She has learned what the word no means though.
Our favorite place is on Mom's lap or on anyone elses lap who comes to visit. We get lots of hugs. We are glad the people at Metroplex Mutts recognized how close we are to one another as we cannot imagine what our lives would be like if we were not together.
We even went to visit a nice doctor this week but did not really want
to get out of the car so mom had to carry us. Mom wanted us to be checked as I was feeling well and Bubbles will need to have her stitches out soon from her operation. I have a bit of a cold so the doctor gave mom some pills to help me feel better. Bubbles gets her stitches out next week so we will get to see the nice doctor again.
We went for a walk around our new neighborhood this week but think it is better if we stay close to home for now. The cars that drive by scare us a bit from when we were on the streets. Mom thinks that in a couple of weeks we will feel safe enough to go with Teddy and Tallulah on their daily walks. She is not sure how she will walk the four of us together so we may need to go in shifts. It is good for mom as we will make her more healthy but getting more exercise.
We are glad that even though mom was not looking for two more dogs she decided to stop by when we were at an adoption day. I think she is really glad to. We make sure that we give her lots of kisses to remind her how happy we are.
Thank you to our friends at Metroplex Mutts for helping us get off the street and finding us a home where we can be warm, fed and loved. We cannot imagine what our lives would have been like had we not been picked up and taken care of prior to finding our forever home. Sable (pictured above) walked past me many times while I was sitting on the couch in the den watching TV with Mitzi (pictured below) laying next to me. Sable sniffed my hand each time, let me touch her & a few times, she let me stroke her back. I went to bed about 12:30 or 1:00 a.m. She explored the bedroom more thoroughly (she had run of the house - all doors except closets were open to her). Mitzi was in her usual spot on the bed, curled up next to my right thigh asleep, on the inside of the bed. Sable jumped up on the nightstands several times, saw Mitzi and jumped down. Then she (Sable) jumped onto the bed beside me, saw that I wasn't her foster parent & jumped down. After a few times of this, she stayed a little longer each time to let me stroke her. She talked to me & purred some. Then about 2:45 a.m. she laid down beside me on my left side next to my hip. After several turnarounds (purring a lot), she stayed in one position. I turned out the light
about 3:00 a.m. and went to sleep with my hand on her back. Wow!! I am so honored that she trusts me but that is because you taught her to trust. When I woke up, she was gone but came in the bathroom after a while and talked to me.
She is coming up to Mitzi & smelling her out today. Mitzi watched while Sable ate some of Mitzi's food today, glad to know that Mitzi is not food aggressive. I'm already in love with both of them.

Loretta

Gulliver

We really did not expect to fall in love with such a LARGE dog. However, our dog Jack picked Gulliver out of many choices and our fate was sealed, fortunately for us Jack was wiser than we were. Gulliver is blossoming into an amazing young man. He walks without a leash, following Jack and us on long walks, he is steadily gaining weight and learning his commands. He has even made 2 appearances at C.C. Young Retirement Village and they love him! We cannot go out in public without people commenting on what a handsome dog he is.
Tricia thank you so much for your patience and guidance. We look forward to the Mutt Mardi Gras!
Also, for those thinking of adoption please do so! Heartworm positive? Who cares! Gulliver was and is now healthy as a horse! Treatment is much, much easier these days.

TRISTAN'S LONG ROAD TO HIS FOREVER HOME

Tristan was found in a hotel room with his owner who had passed away. He ended up in the Dallas shelter and was then rescued by Metroplex Mutts. He was treated for heart worms and anxiously awaited his new home. Unfortunately the older dog in the first home just wasn't interested in having a new buddy. Several weeks later he was placed into another home with two dogs and a cat. Though they tried and tried the alpha dog just didn't accept him either so he began to amuse himself by playing with the cats because nobody else would play with him. So alas, he was looking for home #3 when we received the most wonderful inquiry about him that started with "Let us tell you a little bit about ourselves." And what wonderful information it was.
But this family wasn't in Dallas - they were outside Houston, TX. A small obstacle. Glowing references, pictures and local rescue groups they had previously adopted from got us over that hurdle. So off we went on Tristan's new adventure. All I can say it was love at first sight.
Sandy brought pictures of their current and previous dogs and Tristan jumped right into her arms. She brought all sorts of treats to win his heart but that wasn't even needed. After an hour of getting acquainted in the park, off he went to his new home. His name is now Sully and the update we just got is heartwarming.
SULLY
Occupation: Demolitions Expert
Favorite Things - Sleeping on the Living Room Sofa and Drinking from the Toilet
Dislikes: Getting ear hairs trimmed
Hi, I'm Sully, formerly Tristan. I love my new home and my new people. Even though I was asked politely, I just can't stop drinking out of the toilet! It's so convenient. My new brother, Teddy the terror-ier, wasn't sure about me at first, but now we're buds. I love sleeping in the bed and I take more than my share for sure. I love to take off running across the room at 100 miles an hour, stop on a dime, and get things off the floor and throw them across the room. What a great game. And the best game of all ... I wait at the door each day, and when Mom says "Daddy's home" I wait and jump up and almost flatten Dad with a big old body hug! I've learned to listen for his truck so I can prepare. He tries to sneak in, but I'm too good - and I'm so glad to see him. I love male bonding! So I'm not going anywhere this time - I'm here to stay. My forever home is awesome! I'm so happy!
Love,
Sully

THE ADVENTURES OF BARNEY (formerly Chachi)

Dear Nice Rescue Lady,
I wanted to let you know that I am adjusting well to my new home. My first weekend here, my Mom took me to Florida! I was a perfect little boy in my carrier as long as I could still see Mom. Everyone at the airport thought I was adorable (of course). This trip Mom wouldnÕt let me go to the beach because my stitches werenÕt out yet, and she didnÕt want to risk me getting sandy or wet. She promises next time sheÕll take me. But I had fun exploring and having some one-on-one time getting used to my new Mom.
Since I got back home I have been very busy. I went to see my new vet and have my stitches out. HeÕs a very nice man, and everyone at his office fell in love with me. I have been playing and playing with my new brother and sister, Casper and Wendy. Mom says I am helping them get a lot more exercise than they used to get. Casper wrestles with me, and we play tag. Wendy plays tug-o-war with me and shares her stuffed toys. She has this one big yellow duck thatÕs bigger than I am, but I still drag it around.
The cats and I are still warming up to each other. I move a lot faster than they are used to, and I chase them upstairs. The black cats hisses and swats me so I go back downstairs- I can take a hint!
As you see from the picture, Mom really likes this football team called the Colts so I get to wear their jersey during their games. I think I look quite handsome.
I am eating really well and behaving myself (most of the time). Tomorrow I go to the groomer to get a bath and get all prettied up. I think I might be a little bit scared, but Mom says the groomer is a very nice man who loves Casper and Wendy. So IÕm sure heÕll love me too.
So far life is pretty good. But I know if it hadnÕt been for you, I wouldnÕt have had the chance for a new life. I canÕt thank you enough for all that you did for me and so many more of my friends.
You are a special lady, and I will never forget you.
Love,
Barney (I think the name suits me, donÕt you?)

RUFF ONE YEAR LATER

A ONE YEAR UPDATE: This news in from Whitney on Ruff, formerly Ace, one of the first dogs that Metroplex Mutts adopted out. He's gained a much needed 15 pounds and has learned to sit, stay and fetch! He loves squeaky toys and playing with his brother Rowdy. He's learned that swimming in the lake is F-U-N! He's finally stopped being afraid when neighbors (especially men) come over. He is a remarkable dog, says his Mom. and she and thinks they are lucky to have him. We think we are very lucky that we and Ruff found them! Finally, I convinced my husband it was the perfect time to get a puppy this past March. We were a little worried about finding the right dog because we have a 2.5 year old son. We wanted a dog that would be good with him and never nip at him.
I found Aubree (Blossom at the time) on an adoption website. She was in a foster home that was ran by Metroplex Mutts. She was 5 months old and had been found on the streets with mange and was bald. I knew that was the dog I wanted. We inquired about her and within a couple of days someone from Metroplex Mutts had her at our house.
You could tell she was so happy to have a big backyard to run around in and to have people giving her attention. She was immediatley affectionate. We were still unsure though because our son, Camden was not too happy about a hyper puppy running around.
We decided to keep her and crossed out fingers that it would work out with Camden. It took him a couple of weeks but he eventually started warming up to her. She has become the perfect playmate for him. She bites him (in a loving way) and he rolls around and plays with her all of the time.
You can see the excitment on her and his face when they see each other after a long day apart. She has done so well with potty training and loves all of the treats and toys she gets spoiled with. She also brings back toys when you throw them for her and LOVES to play fetch.
She has turned out to be the perfect addition to our family and everyone has taken her in with loving arms. She is one happy puppy and we love her so much. Our family is so grateful to Metroplex Mutts for giving her a second chance and taking her in when she needed someone the most. We love her so much!

JIMMY CHOO

This 2 year old Yorkie has stolen the hearts of all of us here; he's wiley, smart, hysterically funny and now owns the property and house where we live! Little did we know that it would be a little Chihuahua/Terrier mix from Metroplex Mutts that would not only make Rocket happy, but our family too. Bandit is the most loving dog we have ever owned. He is a total snuggler and wants nothing more than to be loved. He was bitten by another dog during his days on the streets, but his wound is almost completely healed now, thanks to the people at Metroplex Mutts. I'm so glad they saved him from being put down. I can't imagine our family without his sweet little heart. So we went on the search for a dog that would be happy in our new home. We looked and looked but couldn't find a dog that seemed to fit. Just when we were about to give up I came across the Metroplex Mutts website and there were a few dogs listed that looked worth checking out. But my eyes went straight to Toshi and Sakura (formally Kameiko). We decided that we would adopt one of these dogs, and because of who I am, I tried to convince my husband we needed both. It just so happened that the day after we found them on the website they were going to be in downtown Dallas on Mother's day. We decided it was well worth the drive to meet these two. Boy are we glad we did!!! And of course after seeing them together there was no way we could split up this brother and sister pair. They are (in our biased opinion) the most beautiful and the most well behaved dogs we could ever ask for. I c
an't imagine my home without them.

Made for each other

I was at the 2010 Easter Parade in the Park, never been before - and so I headed on down. The day is typically a concert in the park, a pooch parade [yes, some owners and their pooches were dressed in like outfits...oh my]....and of course the day would not be complete without all the vendors....and doggie rescue agencies. As a first-timer, I was taking it all in, and at one point wondered down to the starting line to see all the pooches and their owners gearing up for the parade.....'best dressed', 'best in class', 'look-alike'...all the categories you can imagine... While down there, we walked by the crates where all the dogs-for-adoption were.....lots of noise, barking, wagging tails...the usual. Now I haven't had animals for almost 11 years, as I have traveled often - and being single felt it unfair to have a pet that I could not take care of, or would have to kennel almost every week...
Anyway, as we approached the crates, all but one dog were getting attention, all the dogs were yapping, licking, barking, trying to get noticed...One dog stood upright in her kennel, was kinda takin it all in herself - standing tall and almost regal.... I glanced her way once or twice - and we moved on. When I got back to where we were gathered for the day, I couldn't stop talking about her... I did wander back down on my own later, only to find she had been adopted...a good thing I told myself - I wasn't looking for a pet...! About 2 weeks later, I got the call - the adoption had fallen through, and was I still intereted.... Hmmm, let's just say I vascillated for about 4 days, we had the home visit - and that was 4 weeks ago! Since then, we have been on 2 trips [one camping and one fishing], we have had a gathering or 2 at home, a photo shoot - and lil Brinny [formerly "Josie"] has taken an unplanned tour of the neighborhhod [broke out the yard....THAT won't happen again!]
We have both developed separation anxiety, she has become VERY attached to her Mama, and I have asked myself why I waited so long to get a lil friend........
Brinny is home, and I couldn't be happier!!!! Thank you Tricia and Metroplex Mutts!!

Dessi (Stella)

My wife found Dessi at Metroplex Mutts' tent at the White Rock Lake Festival and we adopted her the very next day. She had only been with Metroplex Mutts for a week and she didn't respond to Dessi (or much of anything) but now, a week later, she responds to Stella. My wife and I had been looking for a dog to adopt and after walking Stella around the Festival for an hour or so we knew we had found our new dog. She took a couple days getting used to our house but she's totally comfortable now that she knows it is her home too. She is so well behaved, eager to please and learns amazingly quickly. She goes running with my wife every morning and most afternoons as well and even after all that she still has energy to play. In fact, most of the pictures of her are taken when she is sleeping because when she is awake she doesn't sit still for the camera. My wife and I both look forward to getting home every day so we can see Stella. Thanks to Trish from Metroplex Mutts for he
lping us adopt Stella. We've already had lots of fun times, from morning walks to "wind in the hair" car rides, romps in 12 inches of snow in February and helping plant flowers in April.
We truly thank Tricia for bringing Sugar into the Metroplex Mutts program. We also thank Sarah and Matt for fostering Sugar with lots of love during her stay there.
We think one reason Sugar is such a loving, wonderful dog is that the Metroplex Mutts program is such a positive experience for the dogs
lucky enough to be rescued by them. So, thank you from the
McLaughlin family for our funny new family member!

Lola (Wanda)

After searching for adoption events from local rescue groups, I decided to make the drive to the Unleashed Dog Park where MetroplexMutts was having an adoption event. I went to Unleashed dog park, where Metroplex Mutts had brought some of their dogs to introduce them to potential adoptees. Within the first few minutes, George walked up to me and seemingly announced that he was coming home with me. It was love at first sight. George is the sweetest little guy. He loves our daily runs on Katy Trail almost as much as he loves playing tug of war with his favorite toy. He also loves curling up on the couch. He is a delight. She is the perfect dog for our family. She has traveled with us and our corgi, Rupert, to Oklahoma for both Thanksgiving and Christmas where she has learned to swim, romped with great-danes and other huskies, and had all kinds of holiday treats slipped to her under her new relatives' tables . She even got to experience her first white Christmas! She has won not only our hearts, but those of everyone she meets. She loves to play with Rupert and can keep up with the rowdiest of dogs, but when it comes time to settle in she is just a big snuggle bug. Whether it's sneaking into our bed and curling in between us or stealing a tiny dog bed from a friend, she makes herself right at home. But we especially love when she wakes up and announces herself with a loud "Whooo-woo-WHOOOOO!" Her personality makes us laugh every day. He is the BEST.DOG.EVER! Not only is he heartbreakingly cute, but has the sweetest and most loving disposition. Reiser loves to follow us throughout the house - leading us wherever he thinks we need to go next, and leaning up against me in the kitchen while I cook. He is very good at tug-of-war and catch, and it was hilarious to see how quickly he learned to slow down before he hit the hardwood floors. He is very good natured and easy to play with - no jumping, barking, biting or any of the things you'd expect from a puppy his age. You only have to tell him something once. He just wants to be near us, and we with him. We can't thank Metroplex Mutts and awesome foster Mom Natalie enough!

Rocky

We adopted Rocky in November. He is such a sweet dog that was looking for love and a place to call home. After 2 months he has brought joy to our home. He loves his new sister, Honey, and they fall asleep together every night on a dog bed big enough for both of them. Rocky is so loveable!!!! Now I know that dogs can smile because he lights up our house every day with his puppy qualities. Our favorite right now is is ability to jump from carpet to carpet without touching the hardwood floors in between. It's hilarious to see him run and jump down the hall. His new nickname is "Prancer", he would have been a great reindeer for Santa with his leaping abilities. Rocky had a fun Christmas with us as well. I hope you enjoy his Christmas picture with our other dog, Honey. Thank you Metroplex Mutts - by you taking the time to foster Rocky, we now have a wonderful addition to our family. The kids already searched out just the right frisbie for him to have waiting for him when he arrived.
Deuce had been treated for level four heart worms after being surrendered by his owner at a kill shelter. He was anemic and spent almost six months in his foster home ... at first recovering from the treatment and then just waiting patiently for the right family to come along. And come along they did. Though it happened in a round about way, this was truly one of those things that was meant to be. He has already bonded with his new family and absolutely adores the kids. He greeted Belinda, his new Mom, with lots of wet doggie kisses. It was a match made in heaven, and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving dog. Have a wonderful life Deuce!

Hey, I'm Chance

I was a sad little dog, left outside without companionship because the family couldn't care for me. This really nice lady read about me on readlarrypowell.com and called Metroplex Mutts to ask if they would take me into their program if she would foster. So now here I am, having the time of my life - I even got to go to doggie daycare today! With the help of my foster brother, I have learned how to use the doggie door and I haven't had an accident in the house since then. I'm also crate trained and I love to spend quiet time there. I would really like to have some children and other dogs to play with. I'm a little guy, so I don't take up much room. I sure would like to spend this Christmas at your house - and every Christmas after - if you adopt me!
Happy Holidays,
Chance

Uptown Boy

Alfie moved to Uptown Dallas in early July and has taken to his new urban lifestyle quite easily. We first read about him online and fell in love. We had been considering adopting for a while and hadn't found the perfect dog yet. We have another dog, Rowdy, a cairn terrier who desperately needed a playmate. After a few weeks of emailing back and forth, we finally got to meet him and we both immediately knew that this was the perfect dog for us. Trish brought him over to meet Rowdy at our house and they immediately bonded and became buddies. After that, we knew we had to keep him. He is the most gently, sweetest, loving dog but very protective of me. We changed his name from Ace to Ruff because we felt like he needed a fresh start. It took him a good couple of weeks to warm up to Tyler and he still to this day doesn't like the sounds of any type of siren. We've fattened him up a little and he has turned into a very handsome dog.
We are so thankful to Metroplex Mutts and the loving people that cared for Ruff! It was a joy to work with them and we recommend them to all of my friends looking for dogs!

- Tyler and Whitney

Deuce is available for adoption!

Hey! My name is Deuce. I love to play ball and I love to run. I also love rough housing with my border collie foster brother, and my herding instincts are starting to come out! I still love to be with people more than dogs though - I just can't get enough attention. I do like to follow you wherever might go. My person left me at the shelter and didn't return and I'm worried about getting left behind, so be careful when you turn around or you might step on me! Treats are my new favorite thing, though stuffed toys and balls and frisbees are a close second. And I love to eat! I was not getting enough food at my other home, so I love knowing that I get fed twice a day! I know how to sit, shake and lay down, and I come when you call me, so I've got lots of good things going for me. I'm crate trained and house-broken, too. I sure would like to have a permanent home to call my own. Would you be willing to share? Love, Deuce

Deuce is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered. Please contact us at Tricia (metroplexmutts@tx.rr.com) for more information about this wonderful companion animal.

Meet Olivia!

I'm Olivia!
