Gulliver

We really did not expect to fall in love with such a LARGE dog. However, our dog Jack picked Gulliver out of many choices and our fate was sealed, fortunately for us Jack was wiser than we were. Gulliver is blossoming into an amazing young man. He walks without a leash, following Jack and us on long walks, he is steadily gaining weight and learning his commands. He has even made 2 appearances at C.C. Young Retirement Village and they love him! We cannot go out in public without people commenting on what a handsome dog he is.
Tricia thank you so much for your patience and guidance. We look forward to the Mutt Mardi Gras!
Also, for those thinking of adoption please do so! Heartworm positive? Who cares! Gulliver was and is now healthy as a horse! Treatment is much, much easier these days.

TRISTAN'S LONG ROAD TO HIS FOREVER HOME

Tristan was found in a hotel room with his owner who had passed away. He ended up in the Dallas shelter and was then rescued by Metroplex Mutts. He was treated for heart worms and anxiously awaited his new home. Unfortunately the older dog in the first home just wasn't interested in having a new buddy. Several weeks later he was placed into another home with two dogs and a cat. Though they tried and tried the alpha dog just didn't accept him either so he began to amuse himself by playing with the cats because nobody else would play with him. So alas, he was looking for home #3 when we received the most wonderful inquiry about him that started with "Let us tell you a little bit about ourselves." And what wonderful information it was.
But this family wasn't in Dallas - they were outside Houston, TX. A small obstacle. Glowing references, pictures and local rescue groups they had previously adopted from got us over that hurdle. So off we went on Tristan's new adventure. All I can say it was love at first sight.
Sandy brought pictures of their current and previous dogs and Tristan jumped right into her arms. She brought all sorts of treats to win his heart but that wasn't even needed. After an hour of getting acquainted in the park, off he went to his new home. His name is now Sully and the update we just got is heartwarming.

SULLY
Occupation: Demolitions Expert
Favorite Things - Sleeping on the Living Room Sofa and Drinking from the Toilet
Dislikes: Getting ear hairs trimmed

Hi, I'm Sully, formerly Tristan. I love my new home and my new people. Even though I was asked politely, I just can't stop drinking out of the toilet! It's so convenient. My new brother, Teddy the terror-ier, wasn't sure about me at first, but now we're buds. I love sleeping in the bed and I take more than my share for sure. I love to take off running across the room at 100 miles an hour, stop on a dime, and get things off the floor and throw them across the room. What a great game. And the best game of all ... I wait at the door each day, and when Mom says "Daddy's home" I wait and jump up and almost flatten Dad with a big old body hug! I've learned to listen for his truck so I can prepare. He tries to sneak in, but I'm too good - and I'm so glad to see him. I love male bonding! So I'm not going anywhere this time - I'm here to stay. My forever home is awesome! I'm so happy!
Love,
Sully

THE ADVENTURES OF BARNEY (formerly Chachi)

Dear Nice Rescue Lady,

I wanted to let you know that I am adjusting well to my new home. My first weekend here, my Mom took me to Florida! I was a perfect little boy in my carrier as long as I could still see Mom. Everyone at the airport thought I was adorable (of course). This trip Mom wouldnÕt let me go to the beach because my stitches werenÕt out yet, and she didnÕt want to risk me getting sandy or wet. She promises next time sheÕll take me. But I had fun exploring and having some one-on-one time getting used to my new Mom.

Since I got back home I have been very busy. I went to see my new vet and have my stitches out. HeÕs a very nice man, and everyone at his office fell in love with me. I have been playing and playing with my new brother and sister, Casper and Wendy. Mom says I am helping them get a lot more exercise than they used to get. Casper wrestles with me, and we play tag. Wendy plays tug-o-war with me and shares her stuffed toys. She has this one big yellow duck thatÕs bigger than I am, but I still drag it around.

The cats and I are still warming up to each other. I move a lot faster than they are used to, and I chase them upstairs. The black cats hisses and swats me so I go back downstairs- I can take a hint!

As you see from the picture, Mom really likes this football team called the Colts so I get to wear their jersey during their games. I think I look quite handsome.

I am eating really well and behaving myself (most of the time). Tomorrow I go to the groomer to get a bath and get all prettied up. I think I might be a little bit scared, but Mom says the groomer is a very nice man who loves Casper and Wendy. So IÕm sure heÕll love me too.

So far life is pretty good. But I know if it hadnÕt been for you, I wouldnÕt have had the chance for a new life. I canÕt thank you enough for all that you did for me and so many more of my friends.

You are a special lady, and I will never forget you.

Love,
Barney (I think the name suits me, donÕt you?)

RUFF ONE YEAR LATER

A ONE YEAR UPDATE: This news in from Whitney on Ruff, formerly Ace, one of the first dogs that Metroplex Mutts adopted out. He's gained a much needed 15 pounds and has learned to sit, stay and fetch! He loves squeaky toys and playing with his brother Rowdy. He's learned that swimming in the lake is F-U-N! He's finally stopped being afraid when neighbors (especially men) come over. He is a remarkable dog, says his Mom. and she and thinks they are lucky to have him. We think we are very lucky that we and Ruff found them! Thank you for loving Ruff as much as we did.

Part of the family

Growing up I never owned a dog. Finally, I convinced my husband it was the perfect time to get a puppy this past March. We were a little worried about finding the right dog because we have a 2.5 year old son. We wanted a dog that would be good with him and never nip at him.

I found Aubree (Blossom at the time) on an adoption website. She was in a foster home that was ran by Metroplex Mutts. She was 5 months old and had been found on the streets with mange and was bald. I knew that was the dog I wanted. We inquired about her and within a couple of days someone from Metroplex Mutts had her at our house.

You could tell she was so happy to have a big backyard to run around in and to have people giving her attention. She was immediatley affectionate. We were still unsure though because our son, Camden was not too happy about a hyper puppy running around.

We decided to keep her and crossed out fingers that it would work out with Camden. It took him a couple of weeks but he eventually started warming up to her. She has become the perfect playmate for him. She bites him (in a loving way) and he rolls around and plays with her all of the time.

You can see the excitment on her and his face when they see each other after a long day apart. She has done so well with potty training and loves all of the treats and toys she gets spoiled with. She also brings back toys when you throw them for her and LOVES to play fetch.

She has turned out to be the perfect addition to our family and everyone has taken her in with loving arms. She is one happy puppy and we love her so much. Our family is so grateful to Metroplex Mutts for giving her a second chance and taking her in when she needed someone the most. We love her so much!

JIMMY CHOO

This 2 year old Yorkie has stolen the hearts of all of us here; he's wiley, smart, hysterically funny and now owns the property and house where we live! He stands on this little mound under a big willow overlooking the neighborhood below and greets the joggers passing below! He bosses the two Bostons he lives with, has taken over their beds, dishes and toys! His great good looks and spirit have won him a fabulous home forever! WHAT DID WE DO BEFORE WE FOUND HIM AT METROPLEX MUTTS!
TRISH TODD AND HER COMPANIONS DO A SENSATIONAL JOB AND WITHIN A FEW DAYS YOU WILL HAVE THE LOVE OF Y OUR LIFE AND WILL HAVE SAVED A LOVELY DOG OR CAT FROM EUTHANSIA! THANK YOU TRISH FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS, DONNA & LEWIS KURTZ & FAMILY

The Bandit that stole our hearts.

We were looking for a dog to keep our Italian Grayhound, Rocket, company. Little did we know that it would be a little Chihuahua/Terrier mix from Metroplex Mutts that would not only make Rocket happy, but our family too. Bandit is the most loving dog we have ever owned. He is a total snuggler and wants nothing more than to be loved. He was bitten by another dog during his days on the streets, but his wound is almost completely healed now, thanks to the people at Metroplex Mutts. I'm so glad they saved him from being put down. I can't imagine our family without his sweet little heart. We see why he is named Bandit, because he has truly stolen our hearts!

Stolen Hearts

My husband and I had just bought a house and it seemed too big and empty with just the two of us. So we went on the search for a dog that would be happy in our new home. We looked and looked but couldn't find a dog that seemed to fit. Just when we were about to give up I came across the Metroplex Mutts website and there were a few dogs listed that looked worth checking out. But my eyes went straight to Toshi and Sakura (formally Kameiko). We decided that we would adopt one of these dogs, and because of who I am, I tried to convince my husband we needed both. It just so happened that the day after we found them on the website they were going to be in downtown Dallas on Mother's day. We decided it was well worth the drive to meet these two. Boy are we glad we did!!! And of course after seeing them together there was no way we could split up this brother and sister pair. They are (in our biased opinion) the most beautiful and the most well behaved dogs we could ever ask for. I c
an't imagine my home without them.

Made for each other

I was at the 2010 Easter Parade in the Park, never been before - and so I headed on down. The day is typically a concert in the park, a pooch parade [yes, some owners and their pooches were dressed in like outfits...oh my]....and of course the day would not be complete without all the vendors....and doggie rescue agencies. As a first-timer, I was taking it all in, and at one point wondered down to the starting line to see all the pooches and their owners gearing up for the parade.....'best dressed', 'best in class', 'look-alike'...all the categories you can imagine... While down there, we walked by the crates where all the dogs-for-adoption were.....lots of noise, barking, wagging tails...the usual. Now I haven't had animals for almost 11 years, as I have traveled often - and being single felt it unfair to have a pet that I could not take care of, or would have to kennel almost every week...

Anyway, as we approached the crates, all but one dog were getting attention, all the dogs were yapping, licking, barking, trying to get noticed...One dog stood upright in her kennel, was kinda takin it all in herself - standing tall and almost regal.... I glanced her way once or twice - and we moved on. When I got back to where we were gathered for the day, I couldn't stop talking about her... I did wander back down on my own later, only to find she had been adopted...a good thing I told myself - I wasn't looking for a pet...! About 2 weeks later, I got the call - the adoption had fallen through, and was I still intereted.... Hmmm, let's just say I vascillated for about 4 days, we had the home visit - and that was 4 weeks ago! Since then, we have been on 2 trips [one camping and one fishing], we have had a gathering or 2 at home, a photo shoot - and lil Brinny [formerly "Josie"] has taken an unplanned tour of the neighborhhod [broke out the yard....THAT won't happen again!]
We have both developed separation anxiety, she has become VERY attached to her Mama, and I have asked myself why I waited so long to get a lil friend........

Brinny is home, and I couldn't be happier!!!! Thank you Tricia and Metroplex Mutts!!

Dessi (Stella)

My wife found Dessi at Metroplex Mutts' tent at the White Rock Lake Festival and we adopted her the very next day. She had only been with Metroplex Mutts for a week and she didn't respond to Dessi (or much of anything) but now, a week later, she responds to Stella. My wife and I had been looking for a dog to adopt and after walking Stella around the Festival for an hour or so we knew we had found our new dog. She took a couple days getting used to our house but she's totally comfortable now that she knows it is her home too. She is so well behaved, eager to please and learns amazingly quickly. She goes running with my wife every morning and most afternoons as well and even after all that she still has energy to play. In fact, most of the pictures of her are taken when she is sleeping because when she is awake she doesn't sit still for the camera. My wife and I both look forward to getting home every day so we can see Stella. Thanks to Trish from Metroplex Mutts for he
lping us adopt Stella. We couldn't be happier with our new member of the family.

Sugar's New Year and New Life

Sugar (Sienna) joined our family in January. What a nice way to start the new year! We've already had lots of fun times, from morning walks to "wind in the hair" car rides, romps in 12 inches of snow in February and helping plant flowers in April.

We truly thank Tricia for bringing Sugar into the Metroplex Mutts program. We also thank Sarah and Matt for fostering Sugar with lots of love during her stay there.

We think one reason Sugar is such a loving, wonderful dog is that the Metroplex Mutts program is such a positive experience for the dogs
lucky enough to be rescued by them. So, thank you from the
McLaughlin family for our funny new family member!

Lola (Wanda)

After searching for adoption events from local rescue groups, I decided to make the drive to the Unleashed Dog Park where MetroplexMutts was having an adoption event. I had seen her photo online, but when I saw her... she had to come home with me. It will be a year this coming July since Lola and I are together. She is a fantastic dog. She is everything anyone could ask for and more. Thanks MetroplexMutts for rescuing her so that I can give her the opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.

George Picks Out His New Home!

I adopted George (previously Andy) about two months ago. I went to Unleashed dog park, where Metroplex Mutts had brought some of their dogs to introduce them to potential adoptees. Within the first few minutes, George walked up to me and seemingly announced that he was coming home with me. It was love at first sight. George is the sweetest little guy. He loves our daily runs on Katy Trail almost as much as he loves playing tug of war with his favorite toy. He also loves curling up on the couch. He is a delight. Thanks so much Metroplex Mutts!!!

Lucy (formerly LuLu)

We adopted Lucy one week ago and it's like she has been here forever! She has won the heart of her older "fur" sister, which was no easy task! Lucy quickly learned that when the kids get their back packs on and I say "Let's go!" that means we are going for a ride!! She rides shotgun and sits just like a lady. She enjoys her daily walk thru the neighborhood and has to be given a treat just to come inside! That girl loves the outdoors :) Thanks Metroplex Mutts for giving us the opportunity to have Lucy...We love her! The Stolle Family

Maya (Cobie)

We adopted Maya (formerly Cobie) in November. She is the perfect dog for our family. She has traveled with us and our corgi, Rupert, to Oklahoma for both Thanksgiving and Christmas where she has learned to swim, romped with great-danes and other huskies, and had all kinds of holiday treats slipped to her under her new relatives' tables . She even got to experience her first white Christmas! She has won not only our hearts, but those of everyone she meets. She loves to play with Rupert and can keep up with the rowdiest of dogs, but when it comes time to settle in she is just a big snuggle bug. Whether it's sneaking into our bed and curling in between us or stealing a tiny dog bed from a friend, she makes herself right at home. But we especially love when she wakes up and announces herself with a loud "Whooo-woo-WHOOOOO!" Her personality makes us laugh every day. We are very blessed to have had this opportunity to bring her into our home.
Thanks, Metroplex Mutts!

Reiser (Orion)

We adopted Reiser (formerly Orion) in November. He is the BEST.DOG.EVER! Not only is he heartbreakingly cute, but has the sweetest and most loving disposition. Reiser loves to follow us throughout the house - leading us wherever he thinks we need to go next, and leaning up against me in the kitchen while I cook. He is very good at tug-of-war and catch, and it was hilarious to see how quickly he learned to slow down before he hit the hardwood floors. He is very good natured and easy to play with - no jumping, barking, biting or any of the things you'd expect from a puppy his age. You only have to tell him something once. He just wants to be near us, and we with him. We can't thank Metroplex Mutts and awesome foster Mom Natalie enough!

Rocky

We adopted Rocky in November. He is such a sweet dog that was looking for love and a place to call home. After 2 months he has brought joy to our home. He loves his new sister, Honey, and they fall asleep together every night on a dog bed big enough for both of them. Rocky is so loveable!!!! Now I know that dogs can smile because he lights up our house every day with his puppy qualities. Our favorite right now is is ability to jump from carpet to carpet without touching the hardwood floors in between. It's hilarious to see him run and jump down the hall. His new nickname is "Prancer", he would have been a great reindeer for Santa with his leaping abilities. Rocky had a fun Christmas with us as well. I hope you enjoy his Christmas picture with our other dog, Honey. Thank you Metroplex Mutts - by you taking the time to foster Rocky, we now have a wonderful addition to our family. Thank you very much, Melodie & John
